It is important to understand that the UV inks can be used only for one way bottles and some tableware.
Since the mechanical resistance of the UV inks is lower compared to ceramic inks, contact points between bottles, for instance during filling or transport, should not be screen printed.
In the meantime the chemical resistance of UV inks has become much better compared to ceramic inks and the decoration will therefore keep the shiny surface much better than ceramics during the washing processes.
Almost all glass bottles coming off the production line in a glass factory are cold-end coated with Poly Ethylene which unfortunately prevents adequate bonding with applied UV inks.
In close cooperation with Color2Color bv (a new UV decorating company in The Netherlands) and various ink suppliers, Rosario has developed a UV technology, which is already in successful commercial operation and which is also available for the customers of Rosario Productie bv, preferably in combination with the Rosario equipment.
The technology has been developed to print on PE coated glass. Where decoration away from contact points cannot be avoided then an additional protective coating can be applied.
Color2Color bv has already supplied millions of UV printed bottles to satisfied customers.
UV inks remain wet after printing and therefore a UV lamp must be mounted after each printing station to cure the applied ink before printing the next colour
The high speed 4 station PLS printers of Rosario can be equipped with 2 UV lamps in order to print 2 colours on body and neck
All machines can be equipped with specially designed fully automatic UV ink dispensing systems. Machines stops to fill the screens are no longer required.
